Allen & Frost Secure Victory in Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf

Michael Allen and partner David Frost posted a 10-under 62 to win the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf. The $2.7 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event began Friday at Savannah Harbor Golf Resort in Savannah, Ga. The winners will split $270,000.

In the better-ball competition, Allen, who won last week's Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay, and Frost carded eight birdies and an eagle on the par-4 14th hole Sunday to finish at 29-under 187, one stroke ahead of John Cook and Joey Sindelar (61) and two in front of Andy Bean and Chien Soon Lu (62), Brad Faxon and Jeff Sluman (63), and Brad Bryant and Tom Purtzer (64)

"Well, for sure, Michael couldn't have done it without me," Frost joked later. On the eagle, he chipped in for a two after his partner had driven into the trees and was out of the hole. "I was a little nervous over that chip," Frost said.

"The ball was lying downhill, but it came out just right and rolled down, into the hole. We didn't make a bogey all week, and we got lucky when we needed to."

The team of Fred Couples and Jay Haas closed with a 64 to end up tied for sixth with Gary Hallberg and Corey Pavin (63) at 26-under 190. Andy North and Bobby Clampett (65) were another stroke back in eighth at 191.

Defending champions Mark McNulty and David Eger shot a 64 to tie for 13th at 194.
