Allen Up by One at Insperity Invitational


Michael Allen took over solo first at the Insperity Invitational after following up his opening 6-under 66 with a 68. The $2.05 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event got underway Friday at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas.

Allen, who began Saturday sharing the lead with Marco Dawson, had three birdies and a bogey to reach 10-under 134, a stroke ahead of Joe Durant, who also shot 68. Last week Durant teamed with Billy Andrade to win the Legends of Golf in Missouri for his first title on the over-50 circuit.

Two back are Scott Dunlap (65), Woody Austin (66) and Tom Lehman (66), while trailing by three are defending champion Bernhard Langer (66), Ian Woosnam (66), Kirk Triplett (67) and Jeff Maggert (70).

Dawson posted a 72 to drop into a tie for 10th at 138 with Mark McNulty, Scott Hoch, Jeff Sluman and Olin Browne.
