Austin Wins for First Time Since 2007

Woody Austin showed on Sunday that he still has game. After closing with a 5-under 67 to tie Daniel Summerhays and Cameron Beckman in regulation, the 49-year-old birdied the first sudden-death playoff hole to win the Sanderson Farms Championship. The $3 million PGA Tour event took place at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.

Austin matched Summerhays and Beckman at 20-under 268 through 72 holes in the tournament, which, due to daily late-afternoon storms, resulted in suspensions of the first three rounds.

No such problems existed on Sunday, as Summerhays carded a 69 and Beckman a 67.

Austin last victory came in June 2007 in the Stanford St. Jude Championship. His fourth career Tour title was worth $540,000 and 300 FedEx Cup points. Austin also became the eighth-oldest winner in PGA Tour history and the oldest since a then-50-year-old Fred Funk in 2007.

Third-round leader Nicholas Thompson finished with a 1-under 71 to take solo fourth at 270, while another stroke back were Billy Andrade (65) and Kyle Reifers (70).

The 7-under mark by the 49-year-old Andrade matched Sunday's low score, also recorded by Glen Day.

Bill Lunde (70) and Chad Campbell (71) shared seventh at 272, while another stroke back were Jason Bohn (66), Chris Stroud (66), Billy Mayfair (68), Chris Kirk (69) and Jim Herman (70).
