Bart Bryant up by Four in Dick's Sporting Goods Open


Bart Bryant followed up his opening 66 with a 10-under 62 to forge a four-stroke lead in the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The $1.8 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event began Friday at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y.

Bart, the 50-year-old younger brother of Brad Bryant, 58, and a Champions Tour rookie in search of his first win, carded six birdies on the front nine and tacked on four more on the back to reach 16-under 128, four shots ahead of Corey Pavin (64).

Five out of the lead is Duffy Waldorf, who shot a 65, and six back are Russ Cochran and Rick Fehr, who have both posted two straight 67s.

Sharing sixth at 135 are Canada's Rod Spittle (66), Mexico's Esteban Toledo (68) and American Gene Sauers (66).

Scott Hoch shot Saturday's second-lowest round, a 9-under 63, to rise up the leaderboard into a tie for ninth at 136 with South Africa's David Frost.

Also at 136 is 18-hole leader Kenny Perry, who needed six strokes more than his opening 65.

Brad Bryant began Saturday tied with his brother a shot behind Perry after opening with a 66, but posted a 72 and is now 10 strokes behind Bart. Also opening with a 66 was Joel Edwards; the 51-year-old Texan carded a 71 Saturday.
