Big Hitters Take Note


Long Drivers of America (LDA) has announced that the total purse for the 2006 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship will be $500,000, the largest in long-drive history. LDA also announced the 2006 RE/MAX world champion in the open division will receive $125,000, the sport's single biggest payout.

The RE/MAX WLDC, an international long-drive competition open to all comers, amateur and professional golfers alike, is universally regarded as the premier event in power golf. World champions are crowned in four adult divisions: open, senior (45-54), super senior (55+) and women.

The grassroots event, produced and managed by LDA, involves three tiers of competition. Local and district qualifying events conducted in the spring, summer and early fall lead up to RE/MAX championship week, scheduled for October 23-28, 2006, at The Palms GC in Mesquite, Nev.

There more than 270 long drivers from the around the world battle for RE/MAX titles and bragging rights as golf's biggest hitters. The total purse has gone from $275,000 and $75,000 to the winner in 2000, the $500,000 and $125,000, respectively.
