Boo Bags Third Tour Title

Boo Weekley must have a thing for gaudy jackets. The 39-year-old from Milton, Fla., got his third version of that cloak after closing with a stellar 4-under 66 to win the $6.4 million Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Weekley carded six birdies and a pair of bogeys Sunday to finish at 14-under 266, one stroke ahead of 54-hole leader Matt Kuchar, who had a 68. Defending champion Zach Johnson also shot a 66 and ended up in solo third at 268.

The title was the third of Weekley's career. His previous wins came in the 2007 and '08 Verizon Heritage (now the RBC Heritage). Like the winner of that tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, the Colonial champion also receives a tartan-plaid jacket.

For his latest victory, Weekley earned $1.152 million, 500 FedEx Cup points and a two-year Tour exemption. "We're back," Weekley said during a greenside interview. "I'm excited to play the FedEx Cup and go over to East Lake (site of the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta).

"I finally get my name up on that wall with Ben Hogan and some of the greats that have been here . . . It's awesome." added the folksy Weekley, who ended a five-year victory drought. "Finally made it back," he told PGATour.com about his return to the winner's circle.

Scott Stallings (66), John Rollins (68) and Matt Every (69) tied for fourth at 269, while another stroke back were Josh Teater (67), Dallas native Jordan Spieth (67), Chris Stroud (60) and South Africa's Tim Clark (69).

Franklin Corpening, a Texas Christian University graduate who played the Colonial on a sponsor's exemption, showed he belonged in the tournament. The 28-year-old from Fort Worth fired an 8-under 62 to tie for 14th at 272 with Ryan Palmer (67), Bud Cauley (70) and Martin Flores (71).

Corpening's final-round performance - only a stroke off the all-time lowest score in the Colonial's final round - was particularly special because he did it in his hometown and in front of friends and family. "The feeling is unbelievable to have so many friends and family members out here and members," he told PGATour.com.

"To have nothing going the first three rounds and then really come out here and make some putts, hit it really well. It's just a blessing, the whole situation."
