British Open Field Adds Seven More Players

Seven more players have qualified for golf's oldest tournament, the Open Championship.

With their high finishes in Sunday's Greenbrier Classic George McNeill, Chris Stroud, Cameron Tringale and Billy Hurley III earned spots in the July 17-20 major championship at Royal Liverpool in England.

Also qualifying are Sweden's Robert Karlsson, Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey and and France's Victor Riu, who punched their tickets with their finishes in the European Tour's French Open, won by Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland.

More players will be seeking to qualify this week in the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic and the Scottish Open on the European Tour.

The Deere awards one invite for a player finishing tied for fifth or better, while three players ending up tied for 10th or better at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club during the Scottish Open will receive invites.

American Phil Mickelson will be the defending champion in this year's British Open. The 44-year-old American earned his fifth major title last year at Muirfield in Scotland after closing with a 5-under 66 to win by three strokes over Sweden's Henrik Stenson.
