Browne & Cook Set Pace in Dick's Sporting Goods Open


Olin Browne and John Cook each recorded 7-under 65s to share the leaderboard's top spot in the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The $1.85 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event got underway Friday at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y.

The 55-year-old Browne, winner of the 2011 U.S. Senior Open, had a spotless outing with seven birdies, while Cook recorded eight birdies and a bogey. The 56-year-old Cook has nine victories on the Champions Tour.

One stroke back are Steve Lowery, defending champion Bart Bryant and David Frost, while two behind the 18-hole leaders are Doug Garwood, Dick Mast, Ben Bates, John Riegger, Sandy Lyle, Woody Austin, Scott Dunlap, Tommy Armour III, Jeff Sluman and Bernhard Langer.

Langer, the runaway leader in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points' race thanks to four victories this year - including two majors, carded five birdies.

Fourteen players opened with 68s.
