Cejka Rallies to Win Puerto Rico Open in Playoff

Alex Cejka birdied the first hole of a five-way playoff to win the Puerto Rico Open. The $3 million PGA Tour event took place at Trump International Golf Club opposite the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Miami.

The 44-year-old Cejka closed with a 3-under 69 on the windswept course to finish tied in regulation at 7-under 281 with Argentina's Emiliano Grillo (70) and Americans Tim Petrovic (67), rookie Jon Curran (70) and San Saunders (68).

On the first extra hole, the par-5 18th, the 44-year-old Cejka sank a 12-foot birdie putt to secure the victory. It was the Czech-born German's first PGA Tour victory in 287 starts. The win was worth $540,000 and 300 FedEx Cup points.

Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson, had a chance to force another extra hole but missed his birdie attempt from 8 feet.

Finishing tied for sixth at 282 were Americans Will MacKenzie, Boo Weekley, Will Wilcox and Scott Pinkney.

Scott Brown, the 2013 tournament winner and 54-hole co-leader with fellow American Chris Smith, bogeyed two holes on the back nine for a 1-over 73 to drop into a tie for 10th at 283 with Australia's Rod Pampling, Spaniard Rafael Cabrera Bello, Zimbabwe's Brendon de Jonge, John Daly and Smith.
