Cook Wins Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach


John Cook closed with a 3-under 69 to win the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. The $1.9 million, 54-hole tournament teed off Friday on California's Monterey Peninsula.

The first two rounds of the Champions Tour event were held on the par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links and the par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course, with Pebble Beach the site of Sunday's final round.

The 56-year-old Cook started Sunday with a one-stroke lead over Skip Kendall and Tom Byrum. His three-day total of 11-under 204 was a shot less than Byrum, who also had a 69.

The win, Cook's 10th on the over-50 circuit, was worth $285,000.

Finishing two strokes behind the winner were Kendall (70) and Roger Chapman (65), while three trailing by three was Woody Austin (66).

Defending First Tee Open champion Kirk Triplett (67), Billy Andrade (69), Fred Funk (70) and Lee Janzen (70) shared sixth at 208.
