Coore-Crenshaw Pegged for New Course in Dallas

The architectural team of Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore has been selected to design the new Trinity Forest Golf Course. The 18-hole course will be built on a closed landfill located 10 minutes south of downtown and owned by the city of Dallas.

Groundbreaking is expected to take place in the next few months, with a projected opening of spring 2016. Dallas officials hope the course will be the future venue of the HP Byron Nelson Championship after the tournament's new sponsor, AT&T, takes over the event in 2015. The tournament is under contract through 2018 to play at its current site, the Four Seasons Resort in nearby Irving.

The Coore-Crenshaw firm has several highly regarded projects in its portfolio, including the recent renovation of Pinehurst No. 2, the site of both the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open, the first time in history the two major championships will be held in consecutive weeks at the same venue.

New courses to their credit include Bandon Trails and Bandon Preserve on the Oregon coast, Sand Hills Golf Club in Nebraska and the recently opened Red course at Streamsong Resort in Florida.

The Austin-based Crenshaw is excited to work on Trinity Forest. "As a native Texan, it is a great honor for our firm to be selected for this project," the two-time Masters champion said in a news release.

"The site is interesting," added Coore. "It has great character is inherently appealing for classic golf. It has the potential to yield an outstanding golf course."
