Costa Named Associate Member of European Institute of Golf Course Architects

Virginia Costa, a senior designer and agronomist at Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, was named an Associate Member of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA) at the body's annual conference, which took place last month in Estoril, Portugal.

"We congratulate Virginia on this important professional achievement," said Dana Fry, a principal of Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design. "We are proud to have her as a member of our design team."

Costa, who resides in Italy, is an accomplished amateur player, having been a member of the Italian national team and the University of Florida women's golf team. She has significant turf-grass and design experience.

Costa began working toward her EIGCA associate-member designation in 2008, when she earned an EIGCA diploma in golf-course design. She officially became an associate member after having completed a personal workshop with Rainer Preissmann, a past president of the organization.

Costa devotes her golf course design skills to projects in Italy and throughout Europe.

"From a professional point of view," Costa said, "nothing is more exciting than creating and designing a golf course. Now that I am an associate member of such an important institute as EIGCA, I will have many more opportunities."
