Crowded at the Top of FedEx St. Jude Classic


Six players opened with 4-under 66s in the opening round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic. The $5.7 million PGA Tour event got underway Thursday at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Setting the pace in the 72-hole tournament are Australians Nathan Green and Stuart Appleby, and Americans Martin Flores, Davis Love III, Glen Day and Harris English

Defending champion Dustin Johnson is in a big group of players who posted 67s on the par-70 layout.

Boo Weekley, who won at Colonial two weeks ago, had a 68.

Phil Mickelson, who on Wednesday said he wanted to play in Memphis to get ready for next week's U.S. Open at Merion, shot 1-over Thursday. His 71 included four birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey on the par-5 16th hole.
