Day & Tringale Maintain Edge in Franklin Templeton Shootout


Jason Day and Cameron Tringale followed up their opening 17-under 55 in Thursday's scramble with an 8-under 64 in Friday's modified alternate shot to keep their lead in the Franklin Templeton Shootout.

The $3.1 million 54-hole event with 12 teams is taking place at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

Trailing by three shots is the duo of Graeme McDowell and Gary Woodland, who carded the low round of the day, a 63, while another stroke back are Harris English and Matt Kuchar (66). English and Kuchar are the defending champions; last year they finished 54 holes in 34-under 182.

Alone in fourth at 19-under are Charles Howell III and Scott Verplank (64). Sharing fifth at 18-under are Keegan Bradley and Camilo Villegas (67), Bill Horschel and Ian Poulter (65), and Patrick Reed and Brandt Snedeker (65).

Tied for eighth at 17-under are Ryan Palmer and Jimmy Walker (68) and Justin Leonard and Rory Sabbatini (67).

Rounding out the leaderboard in 10th place at 16-under are Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker (16-under after a 68 Friday); Sean O'Hair and Kenny Perry (15-under and 69), and Retief Goosen and Mike Weir (10-under and 74).

Saturday's final round will be a better ball.
