Day & Tringale Victorious at Franklin Templeton Shootout


Jason Day and Cameron Tringale made good use of their opening 17-under 55 in the opening round scramble, holding on to win by a stroke in the Franklin Templeton Shootout.

In the final round at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., Day and Tringale carded a 7-under 65 thanks to six birdies on the back nine in Saturday's better-ball format, finishing at 32-under in the 54-hole event and a shot clear of defending champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar, who carded a 62.

For their victory, Day and Tringale each took home $385,000, while English and Kuchar settled for $242,500 each.

Keegan Bradley and Camilo Villegas carded a 61 to move into a tie for third at 29-under with Billy Horschel and Ian Poulter, who also shot 61, while Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker fired the low round of the day, a 60, to tie for fifth with Graeme McDowell and Gary Woodland (66).

Sharing seventh were Charles Howell III and Scott Verplank (65) and Justin Leonard and Rory Sabbatini (63).

Rounding out the leaderboard in the 12-team event were Jimmy Walker and Ryan Palmer (64 and 25-under); Patrick Reed and Brandt Snedeker (66 and minus-24); Sean O'Hair and Kenny Perry (65 and 22-under), and Retief Goosen and Mike Weir (67 and minus-15).
