Embarrassment of Major Riches for Perry

After going 31 years as a professional without a major under his belt, Kenny Perry has won two straight on the Champions Tour. The 52-year-old Kentuckian closed with a stellar 7-under 63 to run away with the U.S. Senior Open at Omaha Country Club by five strokes.

Perry broke through with the first major victory in his stellar career at the Senior Players Championship two weeks ago in Pittsburgh.

On Sunday in Nebraska, the 14-time PGA Tour winner and now four-time victor on the over-50 circuit carded nine birdies and two bogeys to finish at 13-under 267, five shots ahead of 2009 U.S. Senior Open Fred Funk (68) and six in front of Rocco Mediate (66) and Corey Pavin (67).

Over the weekend Perry, after opening with a 67 and 73, shot rounds of 64 and 63 to blow away the field. His 7-under effort on Sunday matched the championship's low mark, carded in the second round by 54-hole leader Michael Allen, who ended up in fifth at 274 after closing with a 72.

Steve Elkington (65), Jeff Sluman (68), Kirk Triplett (65) and Taiwan's Chien Soon Lu (68) shared sixth at 276. Two strokes further back were Duffy Waldorf (65), Tom Lehman (70), Bart Bryant (70) and Chris Williams (70).

Jeff Hart (65), Australia's Peter Senior (68), Loren Roberts (68), Fred Couples (69) and 2010 U.S. Senior Open champion Bernhard Langer (69) ended up in 14th at 279.

Other final-round scores included a 69 by Champions Tour rookie Colin Montgomerie, putting the Scot and 2013 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee in a tie for 30th at 3-over 283.

The only amateur who made the 36-hole cut, Doug Hanzel, a 55-year-old medical doctor from Savannah, Ga., had a second straight 73 to finish in 56th with four others at 10-over 290.
