English, Holmes Share Lead at Farmers Insurance Open


Thirty-six-hole leader Harris English has company heading into the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open. Despite a 1-over 73, the 25-year-old from Georgia is still setting the pace in the $6.3 million PGA Tour at Torrey Pines near San Diego.

English, who won twice in 2013, posted two birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey on the par-4 fourth hole at Torrey Pines South to get to 9-under 207, the same total as J.B. Holmes, who posted a 68.

The bogey and double were English's first dropped shots of the tournament.

The 32-year-old Holmes, a three-time PGA Tour winner, had seven birdies and three bogeys Saturday.

In close pursuit of the co-leaders at 208 are Lucas Glover, Jimmy Walker, Spencer Levin, Chad Campbell and Nick Watney. All but Watney - who posted a 72 - carded 2-under 70s.

Campbell had the shot of the day. The 40-year-old Texan, a four-time winner, aced the 143-yard third hole. He added two birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Just two behind English and Holmes are Alex Prugh (69), Bill Haas (70), Andres Gonzales (71), Jason Day (71) and Jhonattan Vegas (73).

Defending champion Scott Stallings rose into contention at 210 following a 68. The Massachusetts native is tied for 13th with fellow American John Peterson, England's Ian Poulter (72) and Australia's Marc Leishman (72).
