English & Kuchar Move Ahead of Field in Franklin Templeton Shootout


Harris English and Matt Kuchar combined for a 12-under 60 on Saturday to take a four-stroke lead in the Franklin Templeton Shootout. The 54-hole, two-man team event is taking place at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

In Saturday's better-ball format, the duo added to the opening 8-under 64 to reach 20-under, four strokes ahead of Retief Goosen and Freddie Jacobson, who went 11-under, and seven in front of Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, who also shot 61.

After opening with a 64 in Friday's alternate-shot, Charles Howell III and Justin Leonard combined for a 67 to match Poulter and Westwood at 13-under. Another stroke back are Chris DiMarco and Billy Horschel, who carded a 64.

Tied for sixth are defending champions Kenny Perry and Sean O'Hair. The pair began Saturday tied for the lead with English and Kuchar, and Howell and Leonard, but could only manage a 68 in the better-ball format and are now at 11-under with Rory Sabbatini and Scott Verplank (64).

Rounding out the 12-player field are tournament host Greg Norman and Jonas Blixt, who combined for a 63 and are at 9-under through 36 holes.

Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker (65) are next at 8-under, and Jason Dufner and Dustin Johnson (69) are tied for 10th at 7-under with Canadians Graham DeLaet and Mike Weir (64). In last place after a 66 are Mark Calcavecchia and Chad Campbell at 6-under.
