Faldo Series Eire Apparent

Nick Faldo is extending his Faldo Series involvement in Ireland next year following the creation of the Faldo Series Ireland championship at Ballyliffin Golf Club on May 25-26 2007.

The Faldo Series Ireland championship will be one of a number of tournaments to be staged throughout Europe in 2007. It will give young Irish golfers, male and female aged 11-21, a chance to benefit from the initiative's combination of competition and education. Competitors will vie over 54 holes at Ballyliffin's Old Links course, which was recently renovated by the six-time major winner's company, Faldo Design. Attendees will also benefit from seminars that aim to give participants an appreciation for every facet of the sport.

Faldo said of his event: "I'm delighted to be bringing the Faldo Series to Ireland. I've had a long association with Ballyliffin and I'd like to thank the club for supporting this new tournament. I'm confident that they will make an excellent host and the Old Links will certainly be a worthy and challenging test for our Irish tournament.

"The Faldo Series Ireland championship is one in a number of tournaments that we hope to roll out across continental Europe over the next few years to further expand the initiative's reach. We will then invite the winners from each tournament to the annual Faldo Series grand final which now takes on a much more international flavor. I'm very excited about this development, which will represent an entirely unique opportunity for these young golfers to benefit from the experiences of competing and integrating with their peers from across the world."
