Ferry Point Sets Opening Date

Ferry Point, the new Jack Nicklaus-designed course in the Bronx, N.Y., will greet its first players April 1, weather permitting. Originally announced in 2001, the links-style course is finally coming to fruition following a circuitous and bumpy route involving various stops and starts during its development.

Officially called Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point after New York City developer Donald Trump came on board to finish the project, the 18-hole layout will begin accepting tee times at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11.

The public, , 7,400-yard course will have a variety of resident and non-resident play rates. For New York City residents the weekday green fee is $141, with twilight rates of $106. Seniors pay $87 and juniors $54. The fees go up on weekends to $169 for 18 holes, with twilight rates at $151.

Non-residents during the week will fork over $190, with peak weekend rates of $215.

In typically blustery fashion, Trump said in a statement of the latest course in his growing Trump Golf portfolio, "I'm thrilled to bring what will be one of the country's great courses to New York City, something residents have been looking forward for decades.

"Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is truly a world-class, wonderful and exciting course and can be played by golfers of all skill levels. We expect to have many major championships at Trump Golf Links - just minutes from Manhattan. This will be a tremendous economic development engine for the city of New York. Once the Trump Organization took over the development, I am glad we were able to get it open so quickly."

Nicklaus added, "Ferry Point was created to be a unique public golf experience and it is our collective hope that the golf course will add to New York City's global reputation, enhance New York's reputation for quality golf, and give its proud residents a place to play and call home.

"Donald Trump has a deep-rooted love for New York City and he deserves a great deal of credit for getting Ferry Point to the finish line and for delivering it to the golfers and golf fans of New York."

Trump is investing $10 million in a new clubhouse designed by Hart-Howerton. The structure is slated to be finished in 2016. In addition, Ferry Point will have a Michael Breed Golf Academy.
