Four Set Pace at Allianz Championship


A quartet of players now shares the lead in the Allianz Championship. The $1.7 million Champions Tour event started Friday at the Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Fla.

Sitting at 9-under 135 heading into Sunday's final round of the 54-hole tournament are Canada's Rod Spittle, who carded a 66, and Americans Paul Goydos, Tom Pernice Jr. and Bart Bryant, who each shot 69s.

Goydos, Pernice and Bryant began Saturday tied for the lead after opening with 6-under 66s.

Trailing by two are Olin Browne (67), Guy Boros (68), Mark Brooks (69) and Bernhard Langer. Langer, the reigning Charles Schwab Cup champion, posted a 70.

Three out of the lead are Rocco Mediate (66), Gene Sauers (67), Jay Haas (69) and Mexico's Esteban Toledo (69).

Defending champion Michael Allen had a 69 and is tied for 13th at 139 with Skip Kendall, Lee Janzen, Loren Roberts, Peter Jacobsen and Tom Byrum.
