Frost Beats Langer in Playoff

David Frost birdied the second sudden-death playoff hole to edge Bernhard Langer and win the AT&T Championship. The $1.85 million Champions Tour event began Friday at TPC San Antonio's Canyons Course in Texas.

Both Frost, a 53-year-old South African, and Langer, a 55-year-old from Germany, closed with 6-under 66s to make up a six-shot deficit Sunday and tie for the lead in regulation at 8-under 208. The two entered the playoff. On the first extra hole, the par-4 18th, both players carded pars.

The second time down the 18th Frost made the winning birdie putt for his second title on the Champions Tour this season and the third of his career on the over-50 circuit. The latest win was worth $277,500.

Mark Calcavecchia, who entered Sunday with a four-stroke edge over the field, closed with a 2-over 74 to finish in third place at 210.

Tommy Armour took solo fourth at 211 after shooting a 67. Tied for fifth at 212 were Kirk Triplett (69) and Willie Wood (70).
