Frost Continues to Set Pace in Toshiba Classic


David Frost fired a 5-under 66 to maintain his one-stroke lead over Fred Couples in the Toshiba Classic. The $1.75 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event began Friday at the par-71 Newport Beach Country Club in Southern California.

Frost, who opened with a 63, is now at 13-under 129 through 36 holes. After both players birdied the par-5 18th hole, Couples - a 2013 inductee in the World Golf Hall of Fame and the winner of the 2010 Toshiba Classic - also came home with a 66 and is at 12-under.

Jim Gallagher, Jr. is in solo third at 134 after a 68, and another stroke back are Scott Hoch (64), Jay Haas (66), Bob Tway (67) and D.A. Weibring (68).

Dan Forsman, Mexico's Esteban Toledo and Australia's Peter Senior all shot 68s and share eighth at 136. Tied for 11th at 137 are Fred Funk (67), Tom Watson (67) and Bernhard Langer (70).

Defending champion Loren Roberts followed up his opening 69 with a 70 and is now tied for 22nd at 3-under 139.
