Frost Pulls off Win in Mississippi

David Frost shot a 4-under 68 to win the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic for his sixth title on the Champions Tour. The 55-year-old South African finished at 10-under 206 in the $1.6 million, 54-hole event at the Fallen Oak course in Biloxi.

Frost carded six birdies and two bogeys to edge over Tom Lehman (70) and 36-hole leader Kevin Sutherland by a stroke. Frost was assessed a one-stroke penalty on the 17th hole after the coin marking his ball on the green moved when he accidentally dropped the ball on it, giving him a bogey, but he had enough of a cushion to survive the incident.

Sutherland, a Sacramento native, entered Sunday with a two-shot advantage over the field. Despite a birdie on the last, he had three bogeys on the back nine to fall out of the lead.

The victory for Frost was his first since the Regions Tradition - a major on the over-50 circuit - in 2013. He earned $240,000.

Two strokes back was Joe Durant (69), while tied for fifth at 209 were Woody Austin and Scotsman Colin Montgomerie, who each recorded 70s.

Tied for seventh were Billy Andrade (70 and Tom Pernice Jr. (72), and in ninth at 211 were Argentina's Jose Coceres (68), Scott Dunlap (72) and Olin Browne (72).

Defending champion Jeff Maggert posted his second straight 70 to end up in 14th at 213.
