Funk & Sluman Win Legends of Golf

Fred Funk and Jeff Sluman won the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf on Sunday. The $2.4 million on the Champions Tour took place at Top the Rock resort in Ridgedale, Mo.

The winners finished at 6-under 48 Sunday over 18 holes at the nine-hole par-3 Top of the Rock course. The tournament, which implemented best-ball and alternate-shot formats, also involved the neighboring regulation-length, 18-hole Buffalo Ridge course.

Funk and Sluman ended the 54-hole event at 20-under 159, splitting the top prize of $460,000. Finishing another stroke back were Jay Haas and Peter Jacobsen, who shot 50 Sunday.

Craig Stadler and Kirk Triplett were six strokes back.

Jim Colbert and partner Jim Thorpe won the Legends Division for players 65 and older. The two carded 23 over nine holes on the par-3 layout, finishing at 11-under 118 to beat Bruce Fleisher and Larry Nelson by three.

Colbert, who won the Legends Division last year when he was paired with Bob Murphy and the tournament was in Savannah, Ga., likes the format and the fact that the event was held on a par-3 course.

"We had big crowds, and this venue is really good for the game of golf because you can play nine holes and have fun," said Colbert, who won 20 titles as a regular competitor on the Champions Tour. "It's good for the game of golf that people see this."
