Haas & Durant Tied for Top Spot at Champions Tour Event

Jay Haas and Joe Durant took a share of the opening-round in the Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn. The $2.1 million Champions Tour event got underway Friday at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.

Haas carded seven birdies and an eagle - and one bogey - for his 8-under 63, while Durant posted eight birdies, an eagle and a pair of bogeys to match Haas's score.

Haas, a 60-year-old, won the tournament in 2005 and '09 among his 16 titles on the over-50 circuit.

Two strokes back are England's Roger Chapman and American Scott Dunlap. Kirk Triplett, winner of last week's SAS Championship and the ACE Group Classic in February, is tied for fifth with Bill Glasson, Mike Goodes, John Riegger and Rocco Mediate.

The runaway leader in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, five-time 2014 winner Bernhard Langer, isn't playing this week.
