Huston on Top at Dick's Sporting Goods Open

John Huston is in a good position to successfully defend his title in the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The 54-hole, $1.8 million Champions Tour event is being held at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y.

Huston has posted rounds of 7-under 65 and 67 to get to 12-under 132, one stroke ahead of Brad Faxon, who posted a 66 Saturday.

The 51-year-old Huston is hoping that he can duplicate his victory - his first and only one on the over-50 circuit - on Sunday. ''Hopefully, that'll happen again because it would certainly make it a lot easier,'' he said, then added, ''Anytime you're near the lead, you feel like you should have a chance. You just try to keep the momentum that you have going and not really think about winning. There's a long ways to go.''

Faxon is known for his putting and less for his driving, which showed en route to his 6-under effort that involved only 24 putts. ''I've played a lot of good golf throughout my career hitting the ball sideways,'' he said. ''I don't expect to cure that overnight and hit every shot perfectly tomorrow, but sometimes that's just the way you play and it's definitely the way I play.''

Tied for third at 135 are Willie Wood (68) and Peter Senior (67), while another stroke back are Fred Funk (69) and Dick Mast (67).
