Koepka Up by One at FedEx St. Jude Classic


Brooks Koepka followed up his opening 6-under 64 with a 67 to forge a one-shot lead in the FedEx St. Jude Classic. The $6 million PGA Tour event got underway Thursday at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Koepka, a 25-year-old Floridian who secured his first Tour title in February at the Phoenix Open, posted four birdies and a bogey to get to 9-under 131, a stroke ahead of Austin Cook, who shot a 64.

Australia's Steven Alker had a 68 and enters the weekend in third at 133. Sharing fourth at 134 are Chris Smith, Russell Knox, Fabian Gomez, Scott Brown, Tom Gillis, Greg Owen and Tom Hoge.

Owen began the second round tied for the lead with Koepka, but the 43-year-old Brit slipped down the leaderboard after a 70.

The 36-hole cut was set at 1-over 141. Five-time major winner Phil Mickelson qualified for the weekend after rounds of 68 and 69.
