Langer Completes Domination of Senior Open Championship

Bernhard Langer eliminated any chance for the field catching up to him in the Senior Open Championship. The 56-year-old German carded four birdies and a bogey on the front nine and strolled home from there at Royal Porthcawl in Wales to finish with a 4-under 67 and a 72-hole total of 18-under 266.

In recording his 22nd win on the Champions Tour, fourth title of 2014 and the fourth major on the over-50 circuit, Langer ended up 13 strokes ahead of second-place Colin Montgomerie. The 51-year-old Scot closed with a 69 and a 279 total.

The only other players to break par over 72 holes and ending up tying for third were American Tom Pernice Jr. (70), England's Barry Lane (72) and Canadian Rick Gibson (75).

The victory at Royal Portcawl was Langer's second Senior Open title; he won at Carnoustie in 2010. Langer's closing 67 was Sunday's low round. He began the final round with an eight-stroke lead.
