Langer Extends Edge in Senior Players Championship

Bernard Langer continued his outstanding play in the $2.7 million Senior Players Championship, the third major of the year on the Champions Tour. The 56-year-old German followed up his first two rounds of 5-under 65 and a 64 with a 66 at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.

After two bogeys and a pair of birdies on the front nine, the two-time Masters champion with 20 victories on the over-50 circuit settled down on the home half with four birdies.

Through 54 holes, Langer, a two-time winner this year who also leads the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race, stands at 15-under 195, three strokes ahead of defending champion Kenny Perry, who carded a 65.

Perry, the 2013 Charles Schwab Cup winner, had six birdies, an eagle on the par-5 second hole, and three bogeys.

The 53-year-old Kentuckian heads into Sunday seeking his fourth Champions Tour major title in the past year. He's also trying to become only the second player - joining Arnold Palmer - to secure back-to-back Senior Players titles.

Sharing third at 11-under 199 are Russ Cochran, whose 7-under 63 was Saturday's low mark, Joe Durant (67) and Bill Glasson (68). Five behind Langer is Jeff Sluman, who shot a 64.

Tied for seventh at 9-under after 69s are John Riegger and Michael Allen, while another stroke back are Tommy Armour III (66), Marco Dawson (68), Mark O'Meara (69) and first-round leader Doug Garwood, who carded a 71 in the third round.
