Lewis Rallies to Win RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup & Become New No. 1

Stacy Lewis fired an 8-under 64 Sunday to win the $1.5 million, 72-hole RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup at Wildfire Golf Club in Phoenix.

With the victory, worth $225,000, Lewis supplanted Yani Tseng as the No. 1 player in the Rolex World Ranking. Lewis also won the LPGA's previous event, the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore.

Tseng, a 24-year-old from Taiwan, had held the top spot for the past 109 weeks.

"It's crazy," Lewis told reporters of overtaking Tseng. "That was my goal kind of since the middle of last year and I really didn't think it would be possible this quick. ... I'm going to have fun, I know that. I watched Yani struggle with it for too long and I'm going to go have fun."

Lewis, the reigning LPGA Player of the Year off her four-win season in 2012, had nine birdies and a bogey to finish at 23-under 265, three strokes lower than 54-hole leader Ai Miyazato of Japan, who had a 71.

The 27-year-old Miyazato was still in the mix before a devastating double-bogey at the par-4 16th hole, allowing Lewis to overcome a four-stroke deficit at the start of the final round.

Angela Stanford posted a 68 to finish in solo third at 271, while another stroke back were Americans Jessica Korda (66) and Lizette Salas (69), Italy's Giulia Sergas (68) and South Korea's Jee Young Lee (71).

Tseng finished in a tie for 59th at 2-under 284 after shooting a 70 on Sunday.
