Loves Win Father/Son Challenge


Davis Love III and his son Dru closed with an 11-under 61 to win the Father/Son Challenge. The $1 million, 18-team event took place at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Grande Lakes in Orlando.

After shooting a 60 Saturday, the Loves ended up at 23-under 121, one stroke ahead of Larry and Josh Nelson, the 2004 and '08 winners. The Loves needed a birdie on the par-5 finishing hole to pull off the win in the two-man scramble.

Vijay and Qass Singh carded a 61 to end up in third at 21-under, while Mark and Shaun O'Meara (63) and David Duval (61) and his stepson Nick Karavites were in fourth at 20-under.

Jack and Gary Nicklaus, who won the event in 1999, had a 63 to share sixth at 19-under with Fred Funk and his son Taylor (64), and Fuzzy Zoeller and his daughter Gretchen (60).

Hale and Steve Irwin (64) took solo ninth place 18-under. They were followed by Bernhard Langer and his daughter Christina (65) at 17-under. Lee and Connor Janzen (65) placed 11th at minus-16, and Steve and Sam Elkington (63) and Raymond and Robert Floyd (65) shared 12th.

Rounding out the field at 13-under were the teams of Sandy and James Lyle and Lanny and Tucker Wadkins, who each shot 65; Nick and Matthew Faldo (69) at 12-under; Lee and Daniel Trevino (65) at 10-under; and Arnold Palmer and his 18-year-old grandson Will Wears (76) at 12-over.
