Maggert Rallies to Victory in Mississippi

Jeff Maggert closed with a 4-under 68 to win the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. The $1.6 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event took place at the Fallen Oak course in Biloxi.

The 50-year-old Texan, a rookie making his debut on the Champions Tour, carded seven birdies - including three on his final four holes - and three bogeys to finish at 11-under 205, two shots ahead of 36-hole co-leader and fellow rookie Billy Andrade, who shot a 71 Sunday.

Over that final four-hole stretch, Maggert also bogeyed the par-4 16th. But he sank a 50-foot putt on the par-3 17th at the Tom Fazio-designed course to take the lead for good.

Three back were Bernhard Langer (68) and Jay Haas (71), while four behind was 2012 winner Fred Couples (72).

The start of the final round was delayed two hours because of rain. The first group teed off at 10:15 a.m.

Sharing sixth at 6-under were Jeff Sluman (67), Mike Goodes (67), Steve Pate (67), Bart Bryant (69), Scott Hoch (70), John Riegger (71) and Colin Montgomerie (70).

Defending champion Michael Allen closed with a 71 to share fifth with reigning Charles Schwab Cup winner Kenny Perry (70), Mark O'Meara (73), Duffy Waldorf (73), Tom Lehman (72) and Fred Funk (75). Funk entered Sunday tied for the lead with Andrade.
