Martis Camp Club Selected to Host 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur

Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif., near Lake Tahoe, has been selected by the United States Golf Association to host the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. This will be the first USGA championship held at the club. The dates of the championship are July 22-27.

"There is every reason to believe that Martis Camp Club will provide a wonderful test of golf for the world's finest junior golfers," said Ben Kimball of the USGA Rules and Competitions Department. "The USGA is thrilled to be taking the 66th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship to Martis Camp and working with the members of the club and community. This golf course steals your eye away from the beautiful mountain scenery that surrounds it, which is saying a lot."

The club served as the site of the 2011 Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship. It also hosted U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifying in 2011 and will host U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying in 2012. This will be the first USGA championship held at Martis Camp Club.

"We are honored to have the opportunity to host the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Martis Camp," said club president Mark Johnson. "The members of Martis Camp, the Lake Tahoe area, and the community of Truckee are looking forward to hosting an exceptional event in this wonderful part of Northern California."

"Hosting one of the USGA's 13 national championships at Martis Camp is a proud moment for the members and ambassadors of the club," said head golf professional Gus Jones. "We look forward to putting our best foot forward on behalf of the competitors, the staff and visitors to Martis Camp."

Tom Fazio designed the Martis Camp course, which opened in June 2008. Set within the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the Martis Valley, the course features mature pines, natural elevation changes and mountain views on the first nine, then crisscrosses Martis Creek and the valley floor on the second nine. The finishing holes are framed by alpine vistas, with views to the east of Mount Rose and the Carson Range and westward of the Sierra Nevada Range.

The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship was first played in 1948. It is open to amateur golfers who have not reached age 18 with a USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 6.4. In 2012, the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be played at the Golf Club of New England, in Stratham, N.H., from July 16-21.
