McIlroy & Wozniacki Engaged


Rory McIlroy and his girlfriend, pro tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, have announced their engaged to be married. The pair made the announcement on Tuesday via social media.

McIlroy, a two-time major winner currently ranked sixth in the world, popped the question in Sydney, where Wozniacki is starting to prepare for the Australian Open in Melbourne.

In his tweet, McIlroy wrote, "Happy New Year everyone! I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!!"

Wozniacki sent out a tweet confirming the news: "Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! ... I said YES!!!!"

The two professional athletes first began dating in the summer of 2011, shortly after McIlroy won his first major with a record-setting performance in the U.S. Open at Congressional. At one point Wozniacki was ranked No. 1 in women's tennis and McIlroy No. 2. Wozniacki is now No. 10 in the WTA rankings.

Congratulatory tweets about their engagement have come in from Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Francesco Molinari. McIlroy makes his 2014 season debut January 16-19 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
