Mediate Strolls to Victory in Canada

On Sunday Rocco Mediate continued his onslaught of the inaugural Shaw Charity Classic at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club in Calgary, Alberta.

After opening with an 8-under 63, the Champions Tour rookie added two 64s over the weekend to win for the second time on the over-50 circuit.

Mediate finished the tournament at a record-tying 22-under 191 for a 54-hole Champions Tour event, joining Bruce Fleisher (2002 RJR Championship), Loren Roberts (2006 MasterCard Championship at Hualalai) and Bernhard Langer (2007 Administaff Small Business Classic) with that total.

On Sunday Mediate carded six birdies, an eagle on the par-5 15th and a lone bogey. Over three rounds he posted 17 birdies, four eagles - all on par-5s, and only three bogeys.

For his second Champions Tour title, Mediate, whose first win came in February's Allianz Championship, earned $300,000.

Finishing as the runner-up a distant seven strokes back was Tom Byrum, who also shot 64, while tied for third at 14-under were Duffy Waldorf (65) and Kirk Triplett (67).

Nine strokes behind the winner were Scott Hoch, Jeff Freeman, Michael Allen, Bobby Clampett and Tom Pernice Jr.
