Mickelson Rallies for Fourth Triumph at Pebble Beach

Phil Mickelson shot Sunday's low round, an 8-under 64, to win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by two strokes. The victory, the fourth in Mickelson's storied career in the event and his 40th overall, was worth $1.152 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.

Lefty's stellar final round included six birdies and an eagle - on the par-5 sixth hole - at Pebble Beach Golf Links. With a birdie on the par-5 18th, he ended up at 17-under 269, two shots clear of third-round leader Charlie Wi, who closed with a 72.

"It feels just amazing," Mickelson said at greenside. "To be able to play the way I did the last 18 holes really means a lot . . . It feels awesome and hopefully it's just one of a few to come this year because I'm starting to feel pretty good."

Mickelson, playing in the next-to-last group with long-time nemesis, Tiger Woods, played dominating golf, while Woods - seeking his first full-field victory on the PGA Tour since the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, suffered through a 3-over 75 that included only two birdies against five bogeys.

Woods needed only 27 putts en route to a 67 Saturday at Pebble Beach that took him into contention for the final round, but he took 31 strokes on the greens Sunday. "As good as I putted (Saturday), I putted just as bad today.

"I didn't hit it as bad as the score indicated," Woods added, "but I putted awful. I couldn't see my lines, couldn't get comfortable. I made a ton of mistakes on the greens.

"I was 1-under through six but Phil was 5-under through six. I thought I had to shoot 67, 66 today, and that wouldn't have been good enough. It was a fun day to be out there but very frustrating also."

Mickelson started the day six strokes behind Wi. His Sunday rally made it three straight weeks a player well back in the field overhauled the leader in the last round. In the Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago, Brandt Snedeker overcame a seven-shot deficit to beat Kyle Stanley, and last week Stanley turned the tables, closing with a 6-under 65 at TPC Scottsdale to erase an eight-stroke margin and win the Phoenix Open.

Ricky Barnes posted a fine 67 to end up in solo third at 13-under 273, while a stroke back in fourth was Aussie Aaron Baddeley, who also shot 67. Kevin Na and two-time AT&T Pebble Beach champion Dustin Johnson both carded 70s to share fifth at 275.

After a 74 Saturday, defending champion D.A. Points carded a 6-over 78 to end up tying for last place with Stuart Appleby (76) at 3-over 289.

The pro-am portion of the event ended in a tie between Padraig Harrington and partner J.P. McManus and Brian Harman and Gregg Ontiveros at 35-under 251.
