New Course Opens in Park City

Vail Resorts has announced the public grand opening of its newest course, Canyons Golf. The 18-hole, 6,246-yard par-70 layout winds across 97 acres in the heart of Canyons Resort. The course features more than 550 feet of elevation change and offers spectacular views of the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains and surrounding valleys.

Designed by the father-son architectural team of Gene and Casey Bates, the new course starts at the Willow Draw area before heading down the mountain and going around the Waldorf Astoria Park City and back up to the Orange Bubble Express - the first heated chairlift in North America.

"I'm thrilled to launch such a memorable and exciting golf course at one of the country's premier mountain golf locations," said professional Justin Johnson. "We're offering private club level service with a prime location in the heart of vibrant Canyons Resort, so golfers will have access to top-notch facilities, while playing a truly unique and challenging course with the best views in Park City."

Canyons Golf contains some drastic elevation changes and distinct holes. The 10th drops 250 feet to allow guests the opportunity to hit a 400-yard drive in the rarified air. The fourth hole boasts one of the most picturesque locations on the property, offering panoramic views of Park City.

Much of the earth work on the course was done with unique construction methods, including crushing several tons of rock on site in order to make topsoil for the fairways, saving thousands of gallons of diesel fuel that would have been spent hauling the material away.

Additionally, Canyons Golf features an irrigation system known as "fertigation," which involves fertilizer being directly injected into the irrigation pipes rather than using broadcast spreaders. This method allows water and fertilizer to be placed exactly where needed, resulting in much more efficient use of resources.
