New Course Set to Open in Oman

The seventh golf course in the Sultanate of Oman will open Thursday. Officially named Almouj Golf, the private course was designed by Greg Norman and is situated within a Muscat development called The Wave that includes homes, retail shops and a marina.

Michael Lenarduzzi, the CEO of the Wave Muscat, said the first nine holes and driving range will be ready December 1. "We have also launched this week special early-bird opening membership packages tailored for individuals, families, juniors, students, overseas individuals and corporate," Lenarduzzi told reporters.

"The first 100 applications received will receive complimentary membership for all of December and will have the published joining fees waived, over and above a host of value-added privileges."

Once completed, the par-72 layout will contain 18 holes and boast vistas of the Gulf of Oman and the Al Hajar Mountains.

"The much-awaited unveiling of the first nine holes is a cornerstone in our quest to be recognized as one of the top golfing facilities in the world that will attract internationally ranked golfers. This will lay the foundation for the Sultanate to become a leading golf destination and ultimately drive the nation's fast-growing tourism industry," said Lenarduzzi.

Almouj Golf will feature a golf academy staffed by PGA-qualified instructors. The facility will contain a swing studio as well as a restaurant and illuminated driving range for night-time use.
