New Dye Course Set to Open at Keswick Hall

Keswick Hall - the 600-acre resort in Virginia's scenic Hunt Country - has announced its new Pete Dye-designed golf course, "Full Cry," will open October 10.

A hunting term describing the call of hounds that have found the scent and are in hot pursuit, Full Cry traverses the rolling terrain below Keswick Hall's 48-room inn on the property's highest ground.

With the exception of one hole, Dye's design includes greens with open fronts that are approachable either through the air or on the ground. Michigan-based Albanese & Lutzke oversaw construction management of Full Cry.

The final three holes include the Redan-style par-3 No. 16, modeled after the famous 15th at Scotland's North Berwick. With train tracks running parallel the entire length of its right side, the par-5 17th is appropriately called the "Railroad Hole." The tee box at the par-4 18th offers a panoramic view of nearby mountains and the inn.

"There is no question the Hunt Country of Virginia is the perfect terrain for an exceptional golf course and that's exactly what we have with Full Cry," said Dye. "The layout is as good as any I've ever done."

One of the most influential golf course architects of the modern era, Dye's credits include the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort and Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort.

"Our splendid new Pete Dye course puts us right on the map as a destination for golfers seeking the 'best of the best' courses," says Greg Sligh, Keswick Hall's CEO and managing partner. "It's an honor working with Pete, and we can't thank him enough for his design genius, creatively and passion for the game."

A new practice range and short-game were also built alongside Full Cry. The range features multiple grass tees, a huge practice green, and a short-game chipping and pitching area.

Off the course, the region boasts such landmarks as Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and the University of Virginia, along with numerous outdoor activities.
