Only Online Entries Now for 2011 USGA Championships

Beginning in 2011, entries for all United States Golf Association championships will only be available online. The first three entries for the 2011 championship season (U.S. Open, U.S. Women's Open and U.S. Senior Open) will be available in the first week of March.

"Making USGA championship entries available online only provides a significant cost savings as well as a prudent boost to our environmental program," said Thomas J. O'Toole Jr., chairman of the USGA Championship Committee.

"The selection of qualifying sites is more direct, timely and accurate. A number of our qualifying sites reach capacity quickly, thus filing early and online is key. I hope players will appreciate this initiative."

The online entry process for USGA championships began in 2002. By 2010, nearly 93 percent of the more than 35,000 entries were submitted online.

The USGA conducts 13 national championships annually, including the U.S. Open, the U.S. Women's Open and the U.S. Senior Open. Ten of the championships are strictly for amateur golfers. In 2011, two biennial competitions, the Walker Cup Match and the USGA Women's State Team, will also be staged.
