Otaegui Forges Ahead at Storm-Delayed Tshwane Open

Spain's Adrian Otaegui fired an 8-under 62 to move to the top of the leaderboard at the Tshwane Open. The European Tour event got underway Thursday at the par-70 Pretoria Golf Club in South Africa.

The 22-year-old Otaegui, whose mentor is José María Olazábal, carded nine birdies and a bogey to reach 11-under 129, two shots ahead of South African Merrick Bremner (66).

Most of the day was sunny and mild, but then a storm came through with the threat of lightning and the threat of lightning caused the suspension of the second round later in the afternoon. As a result, several players, including 18-hole co-leader Denmark's Morten Řrum Madsen, will finish their rounds Saturday morning before the start of the third round.

Otaegui took advantage of his mid-round hot streak when he birdied Nos. 8-12. "I was focused and didn't know that I had made five birdies in a row," he said. "I was playing well and made a few putts, that's all I was thinking about. The best golf is when you think as little as possible, and this was one of those days.

"I just have to be patient tomorrow. Let's see if I've learnt something from these last two rounds," he said.

Wallie Coetsee was at 9-under and 3-under through 17 holes, the same number as his fellow South African Trevor Fisher Jr. who was 5-under through 15 before play was halted.

Madsen's fellow first-round leader, England's David Horsey, is at 8-under after rounds of 63 and 69. He's tied for fifth at 8-under with Italy's Edoardo Molinari (66) and South Africa's Keith Horne (67).

Madsen dropped down the leaderboard into a tie for 12th at 5-under. After his 63 on Thursday the 26-year-old was 2-over par through 16 holes in his second round.
