Owen & Gomez Stand atop FedEx St. Jude Classic


England's Greg Owen and Argentina's Fabian Gomez each fired 3-under 67s to move to the top of the leaderboard at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. The $6 million PGA Tour event got underway Thursday at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Owen, a 41-year-old in search of his first victory in the U.S. after winning once on the European Tour in 2003, carded four birdies and a bogey while Gomez, a 36-year-old who won once on the Buy.com Tour, had six birdies and three bogeys.

The duo stands at 9-under 201, a stroke ahead of Scott Brown (68) and 36-hole leader Brooks Koepka, who recorded a 1-over 71 Saturday.

Trailing the co-leaders by three are Australia's Matt Jones (68) and American Austin Cook (72).

Four strokes back heading into Sunday's final round are Aussie Tim Wilkinson, who carded Saturday's low round of 65, Colombia's Camilo Villegas (66), India's Arjun Atwal (68) and Americans David Toms (69), Chad Campbell (70), Ryan Palmer (70), Tom Hoge (71) and Chris Smith (71).
