Park 1 Up on Salas & Two on Hedwall, Sergas

South Korea's Inbee Park carded a 5-under 67 to take a one-stroke lead in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. The LPGA Tour's first major of the year began Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Park, a 24-year-old four-time winner whose first title came in a major - the 2008 U.S. Women's Open, carded six birdies and a bogey Friday to reach 7-under 137, one stroke ahead of American Lizette Salas (68) and two in front of Sweden's Caroline Hedwall (68) and Italy's Giulia Sergas (69).

Three players are at 4-under 140 - Thailand's Pornanong Phatlum (69), Korean Hee Young Park (70) and England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff (72), who began the second round sharing the lead with Na Yeon Choi and Suzann Pettersen.

Choi and Pettersen soared to 3-over 75s to fall into a tie for 21st at 1-under 143.

Park carded six birdies through 13 holes. After her first dropped shot came at the par-3 14th, the 24-year-old from Seoul steadied herself with pars on the final four holes.

"Obviously, putted really good out there, especially on the back nine," Park told reporters. "The wind picked up, so it was tough out there on the back nine. Last four holes, I made all pars. I'm really happy with that."

The 36-hole cut was set at 5-over 149. Heralded teenager amateur Lydia Ko from New Zealand will continue after shooting a 72 and 74.

After an even-par 72 Thursday, Michelle Wie shot a 2-under 70 Friday and is in good shape heading into the weekend, only five strokes back at 142 with, among others, fellow Yanks Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr and Jessica Korda.

Wie has a good attitude this week. "I made a lot of great birdies," the 23-year-old from Hawaii said of outing, which listed six birdies and four bogeys. "The whole round was pretty interesting in general. I hit some interesting shots around the trees."

No. 1-ranked Stacy Lewis rebounded from a 73 Thursday with a 71 a day later and is seven back of the leader with two rounds to go.

Yani Tseng of Taiwan opened with a 72 but shot a 3-over 75 Friday. Tseng, who hasn't won since the Kia Classic a year ago, carded two birdies, a pair of bogeys and a triple-bogey on the par-4 seventh hole. She made the cut by two strokes.

Defending champion Sun Young Yoo won't be moving on. After opening with a 77, the South Korean carded a 76 Friday.
