Play Resumes in Match Play Championship

After a four-and-a-half-hour delay Thursday, the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship near Tucscon, Ariz., has resumed.

The opening matches in the elite 64-player field were cancelled Wednesday and, with snow still on the course Thursday morning, play didn't begin until 3:00 ET.

Twenty-three of the 32 matches had begun Wednesday when a wild snowstorm came through the Dove Mountain course. Players were shuttled to the clubhouse with the expectation that conditions would improve, but that never happened Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, two inches of snow fell overnight to further complicate the schedule. Officials hoped to recommence the first round Thursday morning, but it wasn't until later in the day when temperatures warmed up and the snow melted that that happened.
