Reto Stays Red-Hot in Alabama


South African Paula Reto followed up her opening 7-under 65 with a 66 to take a three-stroke lead in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. The $1.3 million, 72-hole event started Thursday on the Senator Course in Prattville, Ala.

Reto, who played her college golf at Purdue, had seven birdies in the first round. On Friday, the LPGA rookie added another eight birdies along with her first two bogeys of the tournament. She stands at 13-under 131, three shots ahead of South Korean Mi Jung Hur.

Hur had a share of the first-round lead with Stacy Lewis after starting with an 8-under 64. In the second round the 24-year-old Hur had four birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Lewis, the top-ranked player in women's golf and the event winner in 2012, posted a 71 to drop to 9-under 135, while another two strokes down the leaderboard are Americans Sydnee Michaels - who fired Friday's low round of 65, Alison Walshe (68) and Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn (69).

Americans Jane Park (70), Cydney Clanton (72) and Christina Kim (71) are tied for eighth at 6-under 138. Five others are another shot back.

The 36-hole cut was set at 2-over 146. Among those heading home is 2014 Kraft Nabisco champion Lexi Thompson, who posted rounds of 70 and 78. Sixteen-time LPGA winner Cristie Kerr made the cut right on the number.
