Rockwind Community Links to Debut in May

Golfers in the southeast New Mexico city of Hobbs will be soon be teeing it up at the new Rockwind Community Links, which has a grand opening in May. The focus of the 27-hole municipal facility is to provide a place to bring families, kids and beginners together via the game of golf.

Rockwind Community Links, designed by Andy Staples of Staples Golf Design in Scottsdale, will include a regulation-length 18-hole layout, a nine-hole par-3, practice facility, short-game practice area and full-service clubhouse.

"On behalf of the city of Hobbs, we are pleased to announce that the new Rockwind Community Links will soon open for the enjoyment of our city residents and golfers from throughout the region and across the country," said Hobbs City Manager, J.J. Murphy.

"We are the first 'community links' project in the U.S. and we will show that golf facilities can do more than just attract golf enthusiasts."

The main course will offer five sets of tees ranging from 7,100 yards to approximately 4,200 at the forward tees. It has been designed to embrace the flat nature of the surrounding landscape, keeping irrigation to a minimum and the turf fast and firm. The design features elevated greens, "coffin" bunkers and rock walls throughout the course.

The par-3 course, called Li'l Rock, is meant to complement the practice range and short game area. It was built to facilitate walking, families, beginners and kids.

The public will be able to book tee times online at www.rockwindgolfcourse.com or by calling the golf pro shop at 575/397-9297.
