Rookies Still Setting Pace in Sony Open


PGA Tour first-year players Russell Henley and Scott Langley continue to impress in the second event of the PGA Tour's 2013 season.

The two rookies are tied at 17-under 193 through 54 holes of the $5.6 million event, which started Thursday at the par-70 Waialea Country Club in Honolulu.

Henley, a 23-year-old University of Georgia grad, carded three birdies for a 67 at the par-70 course, while Langley, who opened with a 62 to be atop the leaderboard after 18 holes, shot a 65 thanks to seven birdies and two bogeys.

The duo, who often played against each other as amateurs, stand at 17-under 193, three shots ahead of South African Tim Clark, who posted a 66 on the tight tree-lined course in Hawaii.

Aussie Scott Gardner (65) and Charles Howell III (67) are tied for fourth at 197, while another stroke back are another Aussie Matt Jones (64), New Zealand's Danny Lee (66), Pat Perez (67) and 36-hole co-leader Chris Kirk (68).

Sharing 10th six strokes behind the leaders are Aussie Marc Leishman (64), Dicky Pride (64), Brian Stuard (65) and Matt Kuchar (70).
