Second Course Planned at Island Resort Casino in Michigan

Hannahville Indian Community Tribal Chairman, Kenneth Meshigaud and Island Resort & Casino general manager, Tony Mancilla have announced plans for a major expansion and renovation of the facility in Harris, Mich.

The Tribal Council approved a two-year, $8-million project that involves:

• A second golf course;
• Full-service spa;
• Expansion of existing Island Bar;
• Renovation of Bingo Hall;
• Redesign of hotel exterior.

"Through the years, the Hannahville Indian Community has undertaken projects to enhance and promote Island Resort & Casino, making us a leader in the Midwest gaming resort-and-golf arena as well as offering employment opportunities to well over 700 persons," said Meshigaud.

"We remain committed to both as we re-invest in the operation, offering additional amenities and enhancements to our guests."

The management team and employees at the Island are excited about these new amenities allowing us to truly be a full-service resort for customers both locally and regionally," Mancilla added. "The project is in its early stages, but our guests will see many changes quite quickly. We thank the Tribal Council for their continued confidence in the efforts of our employees."

Situated in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Island Resort & Casino offers Las Vegas-style gaming with 1,200 slot machines and a poker room. Other offerings include guest suites, live entertainment at the 1,327-seat Island Showroom and a variety of dining options.

The resort is home to Sweetgrass Golf Club, which climbed six spots in Golfweek's 2015 "Best Casino Courses" to No. 20 in the U.S. Designed by Michigan native Paul Albanese, Sweetgrass has also been listed in other "best-of" rankings in the state.

Sweetgrass will host the LPGA Symetra Tour's Island Resort Championship for a fifth straight year, on June 22-28. No designer has been named for the second course.
