Second Round of RBC Heritage Postponed by Bad Weather

The second round of the RBC Heritage was halted just before 3:00 p.m. Friday, then was postponed an hour and a half later for the day due to continued heavy rains. The $5.8 million PGA Tour event began Thursday at the Pete Dye-designed Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C.

"We're done for the day," PGA Tour Vice President of Rules and Competition Slugger White told reporters. "We can't play anymore. It's pretty bad out there right now. We have a little drying trend between 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. if all goes well (Saturday).

"We probably have about four hours left of golf (to finish Round 2) and if we can start tomorrow at 8 a.m., we'll try to turn it around and get the third round in and get back on track Sunday somewhere."

K.J Choi was one of the lucky players to complete their two rounds. The 43-year-old South Korean, an eight-time Tour winner, carded a 70 and 67 to get to reach 5-under 137.

Choi is a shot ahead of Australia's Robert Allenby, who is at 4-under but finished only five holes Friday before heading to the clubhouse.

Scott Langley, who opened with a 66 for a share of the 18-hole lead with Matt Kuchar and William McGirt, carded a 73 and is at 3-under 139 with fellow American Billy Hurley III (69) and England's Luke Donald (69).

Also at 3-under are Bo Van Pelt and Ben Martin, who played five and four holes, respectively, before the postponement.

Nicholas Thompson, whose sister Lexi is a rising star on the LPGA Tour, carded his second straight 70 to reach 2-under 140 with Australia's Geoff Ogilvy (68) and South African Charl Schwartzel (70). Also at 2-under are Ted Potter, Jr. (1-under through seven holes on his second round), Matt Every (even-par through seven), Jim Furyk (2-under through seven) and Brian Harman (even through five).

Also at 2-under is defending champion Graeme McDowell. The Northern Irishman opened with a 71 and was 2-under through six before play was halted.

Kuchar had a disappointing start to his round Friday, carding two double-bogeys through six holes before leaving the course. He's now at 1-under and headed to an early start time on Saturday.

Jordan Spieth shot a 74 after starting with a 69 and is at 1-over. The 36-hole cut will be established when the entire field completes the second round. Weather depending, this should take place before the start of the third round Saturday afternoon.

Two multiple major champions, Tom Watson and Nick Faldo, will likely miss the cut. Watson recorded rounds of 75 and 73, while Faldo opened with a 77 and was 3-over through four holes in his second round. Also missing out on the last two rounds is five-time Heritage winner, Davis Love III, who followed up his opening 70 with an 80. Bill Haas, who took the first-round lead in last week's Masters before faltering, withdrew before the start of the second round at Harbour Town, citing a wrist injury. It was the first time the 2011 FedEx Cup champion - who has two top 10 finishes this season - has withdrawn from a tournament in his PGA Tour career.
